Puccini
La Rondine
In recent Met seasons, soprano Angel Blue has given heartbreaking performances as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème and Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata, so it’s fitting that she headlined the company’s 2024 revival of La Rondine, whose heroine, Magda, dreams of happiness only for her hopes to be dashed when her past as a kept woman catches up to her. In this Live in HD cinema broadcast, Blue stars alongside tenor Jonathan Tetelman, in his Met debut as Magda’s idealistic young lover, Ruggero. Speranza Scappucci takes the podium to conduct a bejeweled staging by Nicolas Joël, who whisks the audience away to Paris and the French Riviera during the Roaring Twenties. Also in their Met debuts, soprano Emily Pogorelc and tenor Bekhzod Davronov are the comic couple Lisette and Prunier, with bass-baritone Alfred Walker completing the principal cast as Rambaldo.
